Getting started

Using the desktop app with My Cloud

How your computer moves to My Cloud once, by itself, what moves, what happens if My Cloud ends, lending your computer, passkey sign-ins, and where the logs are.

With Brainwrite Cloud, My Cloud becomes the home of your bots: it keeps running when your computer is off, and the desktop app opens it as its window.

Moving to My Cloud

Once My Cloud is ready and you have signed in to Brainwrite Cloud in the app, the app moves everything on this computer to My Cloud, once, by itself. There is nothing to press.

  1. It copies everything while you keep working. A line at the top says Moving your bots to My Cloud….
  2. It waits for a quiet moment, when no bot is answering and nobody has typed for a little while (waiting for your bots to finish).
  3. It finishes (Moving to My Cloud… almost done): this computer's own Brainwrite pauses for a moment while the last changes go, then everything is checked on My Cloud.
  4. My Cloud takes over. What was switched on here is switched on there, so nothing runs in two places. The line says Everything from this computer is here, with what arrived.

If My Cloud is being updated, the move starts when it's done. If something fails, this computer carries on as before and the move tries again later by itself. If it is still failing after a day, the line says why, with Try again.

What moves

  • Your bots: their instructions, picture, settings, skills, files and memory.
  • Your chats and rooms.
  • Logins, AI keys, secrets and MCP servers. Values go straight to My Cloud, never through a chat.
  • Connected apps.
  • Routines, scheduled calls, webhooks and app events. A webhook gets a new address on My Cloud, and its bot tells you once.

Your Claude or ChatGPT plan is signed in on My Cloud itself: Welcome to My Cloud asks you to Connect your AI there.

After the move

  • The desktop app opens My Cloud as its home.
  • This computer is shared with My Cloud by default, so your bots there can use it (see below).
  • Your phone pairs with My Cloud instead of this computer: choose Pair your phone with My Cloud.

If My Cloud ends

If your plan ends, My Cloud stops and is kept for 7 days. Your bots come back to the computer you used most recently, by themselves:

  • That computer opens its own Brainwrite again at once (My Cloud has ended, so your bots are back on this computer), then brings back what you did on My Cloud while it is kept. Logins and keys you added on My Cloud don't come back: add them on your computer again if you need them.
  • Any other computer that moved keeps its own copy from the day it moved, with automations off, and says which computer your bots came back to.

With no plan left, the app shows the plans. See Plans and licensing.

Sign in to Claude or ChatGPT on My Cloud

Open My Cloud in the app and follow Connect your AI, or sign in under Settings → AI there.

Let my bots use this computer

Let my bots use this computer is in Settings → Brainwrite Cloud. Turn it on and your bots on My Cloud open the websites that turn away data centres, such as Instagram, YouTube and Google sign-in, through this computer's internet connection, so those websites see your home connection. In your own conversations and routines they can also read your Desktop, Documents and Downloads, without changing anything. It works while this computer is awake with the app open.

To lend other folders, let bots edit them, or lend apps and screen, open Choose what's lent. On My Cloud, Computers shared with the Cloud lists the computers that are.

Signing in to Google and other passkey sites

A passkey lives on your own phone or computer, so a browser on My Cloud can't use it. What works:

  1. Lend your computer (above, with apps and screen in Choose what's lent) and ask the bot to use your computer's browser for that site. Approve the passkey on your computer when it asks.
  2. Try another way: in the bot's browser, on the passkey step, choose Try another way, then your password and a code from your authenticator app, a text message or a backup code.
  3. For Gmail, Calendar and Drive, connect them under Connected apps on My Cloud instead. The bot then doesn't need a browser sign-in at all.

Which version am I on?

My Cloud updates by itself, a little after each desktop release. To see this computer's version, open the menu under your name at the bottom of the sidebar and choose About.

Where are the logs?

  • This computer: Settings → General → Diagnostics → Open logs folder. Export Diagnostics… saves one file with secrets removed, ready to send to support. Details: Where are my logs?.
  • My Cloud keeps its own logs on the Cloud machine. Brainwrite Cloud support can read them: tell them what went wrong and roughly when.
