Custom MCP servers

Add an MCP server once and every compatible bot can use its tools. Tool calls still follow your normal approval settings.

Choose Connected apps in the sidebar, then the MCP servers tab.

Add a server

1. Choose Add server and give it a Server name.
2. Choose how Brainwrite reaches it:
   • Run a command: enter the Executable command (for example npx), put each argument on its own line, and add environment variables as KEY=value, one per line.
   • Connect to a URL: enter the Server URL and pick the Connection, Streamable HTTP for most servers or SSE for older ones. Put tokens in Headers, one Name: value per line, for example Authorization: Bearer ….
3. Choose Save. A new server is saved switched off.
4. Choose Test. Brainwrite connects, completes the MCP handshake and lists the tools the server offers.
5. Choose Turn on when you are happy with it. New threads use the change.

Add servers from another app

Choose Paste config and paste the {"mcpServers": {…}} block from Claude Code, Cursor or Claude Desktop, then choose Add servers. They are added switched off; test each one, then turn it on.

Secrets stay saved, not shown

Brainwrite never shows a saved environment variable value or header value again; it lists only their names. When editing a server, leave an existing value blank to keep it, or remove its line to delete it.

Your Claude Code servers

By default, bots on the Claude engine get only the servers on this page, plus a bot project's own .mcp.json. They do not load the MCP servers and connectors from your own Claude Code setup, which keeps every bot's tools predictable and saves tokens.

Turning a server off

Turn off keeps the server saved without offering its tools. Remove a server with its remove button.
